Mekyla Li Captures Miss Grand USA 2026 in a Historic Multi-Crown Finale

Las Vegas is famous for its high-stakes drama, but the Rio Showroom delivered an entirely different kind of thrill on the night of August 10, 2026. In what will go down as one of the most suspenseful and unprecedented finales in recent pageant history, Massachusetts's own Mekyla Li was crowned Miss Grand USA 2026, surviving a nail-biting elimination that left the audience gasping.

The Multi-Crown Twist Nobody Saw Coming

The evening started with the typical glitz and high energy expected from the Miss Grand USA organization. A formidable group of women fought fiercely for the crown, resulting in an exceptionally strong Top 10. California's Keshia Lee, Delaware's Allison LaForce, New Jersey's Jacky Pineda, Ohio's Francis Malpica, and Wisconsin's Victoria Mercedes rounded out the court as the 5th Runner-Ups.

But it was during the final moments that the script was flipped. After New Mexico's Alma Alexa Gonzalez was announced as the 4th Runner-Up, the organization dropped a massive surprise on the remaining delegates: three distinct titles were on the table.

First, Nevada's Shelbi Byrnes was called forward to receive the brand-new MGI All-Star title. Moments later, the crowd erupted as Louisiana's Francie Millan was crowned Miss Grand Uruguay 2026.

Then, there were two. Indiana's Victoria Oluwakotanmi and Massachusetts's Mekyla Li stood center stage. In a moment of pure, breathless tension, the auditorium fell entirely silent before Mekyla Li was declared the ultimate winner, leaving Victoria as an incredibly gracious 1st Runner-Up.

Meet Your New Queen: A Global Scholar with a Purpose

Mekyla Li, competing as Mekyla Li Bedwell, is far from a novice in the pageant world. Having previously held the Miss Asia USA 2025 title, she brings an elite level of polish, but it is her substance that truly commands the room.

Born to Chinese and South African parents and raised across three different continents, Mekyla is the epitome of a global citizen. She is currently a psychology scholar at the University of London, focusing heavily on the intersection of global identity, representation, and social impact. Her advocacy goes far beyond a prepared speech; it is a lived reality. Having traveled to more than 26 countries and engaged in hands-on community work in nations like Zambia, she understands the transformative power of mentorship and active listening.

Her platform, rooted heavily in mental wellbeing, stems from a deeply personal family experience with mental illness. Mekyla has dedicated her life to ensuring that the unseen feel seen, driving a mission centered on empathy, dignity, and human connection. She has even carried this message to United Nations conferences, proving that she is not just a beauty queen, but a global diplomat in the making.

With her combination of striking stage presence, multicultural heritage, and profound intellect, Mekyla Li is perfectly positioned to make a massive impact on the Miss Grand International stage. The Grand era of Mekyla has officially begun.
