María Adelina Castillo Birba Crowned Miss Universe Guatemala 2026: The Road to Puerto Rico Begins

The crown has found its new queen. On Saturday, August 8th, the Salón 6 of the Parque de la Industria in Zone 9 of Guatemala City was transformed into a beacon of glamour, elegance, and dreams as 27 delegates competed for the most coveted national title. At the conclusion of a spectacular gala, María Adelina Castillo Birba, representing Sacatepéquez, emerged victorious, capturing the Miss Universe Guatemala 2026 crown. 

The journey to the crown was highly competitive this year, with the Miss Universe Guatemala organization whittling down over 100 initial applications to 27 official candidates. These women represented not only the diverse departments of Guatemala but also the vibrant Guatemalan communities living abroad.

Castillo Birba stood out as a frontrunner from the moment she hit the stage. Her confidence and commanding stage presence easily carried her through the rigorous swimsuit and evening gown competitions. As the field narrowed, she advanced into the Top 7 alongside the representatives from El Progreso, Guatemala en USA, Antigua Guatemala, Chimaltenango, Zacapa, and Huehuetenango.

However, it was the final Q&A round where the Sacatepéquez delegate truly cemented her victory. Exhibiting eloquence, poise, and sharp intellect, she successfully swayed the judges' panel, demonstrating she has the voice and vision necessary for the international stage.

The high-caliber Top 4 rounded out a beautifully competitive night:

• 1st Runner-Up: Carlota Jenny Vanegas Brenes (Antigua Guatemala)
• 2nd Runner-Up: Debbie Nohemi Ruiz de la Cruz (Guatemala en USA)
• 3rd Runner-Up: Yaquelin Sucely España Véliz (El Progreso)

In an emotional climax, outgoing queen Raschel Alexandra Paz Archila—who did Guatemala immensely proud by placing in the Top 30 at Miss Universe 2025—passed on the crown and sash to her successor.

Adding an extra layer of global prestige to the event, reigning Miss Universe Fátima Bosch graced the gala as a special guest. Bosch has been touring Guatemala since August 5th, partaking in cultural activities and beautifully honoring local traditions, including wearing traditional garments during her visit to Quetzaltenango.
